Welcome to Wisconsin!
This website serves as a source of information about the PhD program in Chemical and Biological Engineering at UW-Madison and your upcoming visit to our department. We are excited to answer the question, “Why Wisconsin?“, and introduce you to the people, resources, activities, and opportunities that we believe will provide you with a rich and enlightening graduate career. We hope that after your visit you will think the same and choose to become a “Badger” for your PhD studies.
Our department has a tradition of excellence dating back to our founding in 1905 that can be seen in our consistent ranking among the best Chemical and Biological Engineering programs in the world. Our award-winning faculty offer a range of cutting-edge research opportunities which, together with outstanding students and a collegial atmosphere, create an intellectually stimulating environment for pursuing your doctorate.
To help you make an informed decision, we are hosting Visit Wisconsin Weekends on Feb. 13-16, 2020 and March 5-8, 2020. These intense weekend experiences are jam-packed with professional and social activities intended to maximize your exposure to what the city of Madison and our program have to offer. Each weekend will begin with presentations designed to introduce you to our graduate program, our research, our faculty, staff, and the academic and research resources available. A personalized schedule will allow you to meet with faculty and current students in their chosen research area(s). These meetings are intended to allow you to engage in scientific discussions with potential PhD advisors and learn more about possible PhD projects available for 2019. You are invited to a poster session that highlights the current research in the department and provides an opportunity to talk directly with current students about their thesis work. You will have the chance to sample local restaurants, visit student residences, and join social activities hosted by current graduate students. These activities will highlight the vibrant community Madison offers and allow for social networking.
To ensure the quality of the Visit Wisconsin experience for everyone, space is limited to 30 visitors each weekend. Please submit a completed Registration Form by Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 to reserve your spot.
We expect that you will have additional questions about our program, our University, our city, and/or the Visit Wisconsin Weekends. Please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate Program Office at gradrecruit@che.wisc.edu or by telephone at (608) 263-3138.
We look forward to meeting you!
